Greater Manchester Festival of Ageing aims to portray a more positive view of ageing across the region.
Support of up to £500 on offer to Wigan groups during the festival.
Fortnight event takes place from Monday 2nd July to Sunday 15th July.

Community groups and organisations in Wigan are urged to register their interest in receiving financial support to host their own event during the first ever Greater Manchester Festival of Ageing.
The festival, funded by Ambition for Ageing and Big Lottery Fund, takes place between Monday 2nd July and Sunday 15th July, and aims to portray a more positive view of ageing.
Local investment opportunities are available through the ‘One Small Thing’ scheme which will support up to 10 events across Wigan and contribute to the cost of one activity.
As part of the celebrations, Wigan Athletic Community Trust are organising their own event at the DW Stadium on Thursday 5th July (12pm-4pm) and activities on offer wlll include music and dance, cycling, walking football and stadium tours with refreshments available.
Working with as Age UK Wigan Borough, Inspiring Healthy Lifestyles and Wigan Council, the event will also give over 50s the chance to find out what activities are on offer for them across Wigan.

You will be informed by Monday 11th June 2018 if you have been successful or not.
What can be paid for?
A grant cannot be given to your group or organisation – only a bill can be paid on your behalf, with examples including:
A DJ or dance instructor for a dance event
Catering for afternoon tea
Hiring bicycles for a group cycling session
Hiring a marquee for a garden party
The estimated average cost of the ‘One Small Thing’ scheme is £250, however groups and organisations can ask for as little as £50 up to a maximum of £500.
Payments will be made direct to your ‘Supplier’, not to your group. If your ‘One Small Thing’ application is successful you will be contacted to make arrangements to pay the bill directly.

The Festival of Ageing are keen to support activities which include people who may find it difficult to get to main events. This can include transport costs for groups who want to come along to main events should public transport not be accessible for them.
