From Monday 1st April Citizens Advice Wigan Borough will be offering a new service for people in need of help claiming Universal Credit. This is in addition to the other advice services Citizens Advice offers.
We will offer support with making a claim for Universal Credit, from making the initial claim to receiving the first payment.
Our trained advisers will help with:
- Setting up the Universal Credit account
- Assisting people to submit their claim online
- Completing claim to-dos
- Verifying identity
- Making sure claimants provide the right evidence to the Jobcentre
- Helping people to understand what Universal Credit will mean for them – This could include accessing adaptations to payment or supporting the client to prepare for the practicalities of the first payment.
We will be located in Wigan and Leigh Jobcentre Plus office Monday – Friday from the 1st April until Friday 12th April (and Ashton JCP on Thursday 4th and 11th) to help with any claims. We will then be launching new locations including: St Barnabas, Marsh Green; One House, Aspull; Wigan Wellbeing, Platt Bridge; Atherton foodbank; Pennygate Medical Centre, Hindley; and Standish, Golborne, and Tyldlesley Libraries. The full itinerary will be published next week
The service can be accessed by dropping in to our locations, contacting us via Freephone or web chat, or referrals into the service.
