Some years ago Hindley and District History Society visited one of the oldest churches in Hindley – Hindley Presbyterian Church. During the visit we noticed in one of the many rooms upstairs there was a large framed item. This was a frame that held the photographs, names and regiments of the Young Mens Society of the church who had served, and some died, in WWI. Sadly the photos were of men with the surname beginning with the letters ‘A – G’. We asked if there was a frame for the letters ‘H– Z’ … but none was known of.
However they kindly lent the frame to us for our Remembrance Display. Sometime later they donated the frame to us and we have used it several times.
The week beginning 9th October 2018 we received a phone call from Mrs L Houghton a member of the Church to say that they had found several framed items and one was quite large … were we interested? Could this be the missing ‘H – Z’ one? Arrangements were made to collect the items and the large one was the missing ‘H – Z’.
This has come to light just in time for next exhibition which will be held at St John’s Methodist Church Hindley on Saturday 10th November between 10 am and 4 pm.
