Europe’s top Cycle Speedway riders will be in action at Astley & Tyldesley and Sheffield this weekend!

This weekend (Friday 29th to Sunday 31st July) sees a welcome return to international cycle speedway racing in the UK. For the first time ever, the North of England hosts the European Cycle Speedway Championships. Astley & Tyldesley will be staging racing on all three days, with qualifying matches also taking place at Cookson Park, Sheffield, on Friday. The Veterans Semi-Finals and Open Quarter Finals take place at both tracks on Friday, 11 am start. Saturday sees the racing starting at 10 am at Astley & Tyldesley, with two Junior Semi Finals, two Open Semi-Finals, then the Junior Nations Cup at 5 pm, with the Open Nations Cup at 7 pm rounding off a full day’s racing. The climax of the Weekend takes place on Sunday, with the four Individual Finals taking place at Astley & Tyldesley. The Junior Final is on first at 10 am, followed by the Veterans Final at 12 noon, the Women’s Final at 2 pm, with the weekend’s racing concluded with the Open Final at 4 pm.

Poland are defending both Nations Cups which they won in 2018. Marcin Szymanski and Craig Marchant defend the Open and Veterans Individual titles respectively, whilst there will be new winners of the Junior and Women’s Individual Championships.

Racing is bound to be fast and furious, as Europe’s best cycle speedway riders will battle it out on the tight, shale surfaced, oval shaped tracks. 150 riders have entered the Individual Championships. The locations are Astley & Tyldesley Miners’ Welfare Club, Meanley Road, Gin Pit, Tyldesley, M29 7DW and Cookson Park, Halliwell Crescent, Sheffield, S5 8LY.
