Wigan Child Contact Centre is a safe, friendly, comfortable and neutral place where children can meet family they don’t live with, enjoy time with them and build a relationship with them. Staffed and run entirely by volunteers, the Centre is accredited by the National Association of Child Contact Centres (NACCC).  Families are referred to the Centre by family courts, solicitors, mediators, children’s services and other professionals. Self-referrals are made through NACCC. The Centre, which is open on Saturday mornings and is located in Kildare St, Hindley, does not make any charges. It caters for supported contact but does not offer supervised contact of individual families or provide reports on the contacts.

The Centre is inspected by NACCC every three years. The lead inspector at the last review deemed the Centre to be “a fantastic centre” and at each of the last four inspections particular mention has been made of “the wonderful atmosphere in the Centre which is so conducive to building relationships.”

If this great community resource is to continue beyond the early Autumn, so that children in Wigan can rebuild relationships with a parent they wouldn’t otherwise see, a replacement must be found for the co-ordinator who is retiring after running the Centre on a completely voluntary basis for over thirteen years.  The Centre also needs volunteers who will give one Saturday morning a month to support families and keep the Centre safe.  For further information contact Philip Sudworth on 07768 955938
