Wigan Council Covid-19 Community Update 12th May 2020

We would like to express our thanks to local community groups for their commitment
and dedication to supporting residents during this time.

Our efforts to supply vulnerable residents with food parcels and to provide access to
essential items will continue over the coming weeks and months and we are grateful
that we can count on you to help deliver this service.

If you are supporting any residents who need critical access to such items, please refer them using our web form: https://apps.wigan.gov.uk/covid19/selfisolationassistance or call 01942 489 018.

Residents can also refer themselves.

The phone line is now also being used for lower level welfare support, such as
connecting residents with community groups, or signposting those finding isolation
tricky to a volunteer to have a chat over the phone.

It is thanks to the caring and positive nature of our groups that we are able to support
our residents in this way.

In order to help you maximise your offer to support the borough’s Covid-19
response, we wanted to make you aware of the national and regional funding pots
available to the community and voluntary sectors.

A further two funding opportunities have been identified and added to our growing list
on the council website.

Recently added funds include:

  • Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government domestic abuse
  • Food charities grant fund
Wigan Borough has hundreds of fantastic, innovative and passionate community
groups. All of you are working really hard to ensure our communities continue to
thrive, so we urge you to apply for funding so your efforts can be maximised.
