In response to the Dave Pearson: Return to Byzantium exhibition, The Turnpike Gallery Leigh engaged with Lancashire printmaker Alan Birch to create new works of art.
Following Dave Pearson’s death, Alan was commissioned to restore the artist’s etching plates and reprint his extraordinary work based on English folk tales.
Alan was commissioned by The Turnpike to explore connections to Dave Pearson’s work through workshops and Continuing Professional Development sessions for local teachers and pupils.
Millbrook Primary school took part in several sessions with our current Year 4 children. Their work was displayed as part of the Sea of Ink exhibition, which was on display in The Turnpike’s studio.

Millbrook Primary School have been working hard to achieve the ‘Arts Mark Award’ – bringing learning to life through arts and culture – which will hopefully be attained early next year.
