Extended Description

The ASDA Foundation’s grants programmes aim to support grassroots charitable organisations working at the heart of its stores’ communities. Registered charities, community groups, voluntary organisations and other not-for-profit organisations in the UK can apply for support with initiatives that will make a real long-term difference, benefiting the wider community.

In response to coronavirus/COVID-19, the Foundation has developed two new grant streams:

  • Hygiene Grant – focused on personal hygiene dignity, supporting residents/patients in facilities, who are struggling and unable to provide their own toiletries either through lack of funds or access to family support. Applications are expected from care homes, hospices, hospitals and homeless shelters.
  • Healthy Holiday Grant – designed to support groups that typically would be holding summer holiday activities to ensure children are provided with a hot meal. (Covered in a separate entry.)

The Foundation does not accept applications directly. Applications are made through the applicant’s local Asda store’s Community Champion, whose role is to support projects within the community.

Latest Information

Applications can be made at any time.

Key Criteria

Applications are accepted from registered charities, registered not-for-profit companies, community interest companies and unincorporated clubs or associations in the UK.

To be eligible, applicant organisations must be able to provide:

  • Clear rationale for how the grant money will be used.
  • A bank statement or deposit slip.
  • At least one accepted document as per below:
    • Registered charities – charity number/constitution.
    • Registered companies – company number/memorandum and articles of association.
    • Community interest companies (CICs) – company number/constitution/memorandum and articles of association.
    • Unincorporated club or association – constitution/club rules.

Eligible Expenditure

Grants are for the purchase of personal hygiene items/toiletries, which could be bought in bulk and delivered direct to the applying organisation, for vulnerable patients/residents during the coronavirus/COVID-19 crisis.

Care Homes

Funding is to support those residents who are unable to provide their own toiletries either through lack of funds or access to family support. For example, residents may be unable to receive visitors due to current restrictions and/or may not have responsibility for their finances and therefore not able to source consumables.

Funding is to support terminally ill patients who are already suffering through ill health and separated from their loved ones at a time when they need them most. The grant would assist the hospices, many of whom are charitable organisations and struggling for funds under the current climate, to purchase personal hygiene items for their vulnerable patients.

NHS Hospitals

Funding is to support patients who cannot access items due to restrictions, and those who are dependent on a network of support. This would apply to ALL vulnerable patients – not just those diagnosed with coronavirus/COVID-19. (The grant would be payable to the hospital trust.)

Homeless Shelters

Funding is to help support those who are in lockdown without a home, friends or family, during the coronavirus/COVID-19 crisis. The grant – payable to the shelter or parent charity – could be used to provide the basic hygiene necessities and items for the people the shelter is supporting.

No grant payments will be made directly to individual families.

Application Procedure

Application forms can be obtained from Asda Community Champions, who are based in local Asda stores.
