North & Scotland League champions Astley & Tyldesley raced to a convincing 111-63 win over Hull in Sunday’s Division 1 match at Gin Pit. After the match, A&T were presented with the North & Scotland League Division 1 Cup, by the Regional Competitions Manager, Andy Schofield.

Hull fielded four riders, including one ineligible rider, so conceded 25 penalty points for the Division 2 match. The result was never in doubt, as A&T romped to a 118-43 win, to maintain their position at the top of the Division 2 table. A&T scored solidly throughout, with Max Evans riding unbeaten.

Astley & Tyldesley were represented in five of the six age categories at the third National round of the British Youth & Junior League and Little League series at Coventry on Saturday.

Once again, Team Green’s riders turned in some excellent performances, with four riders taking rostrum positions from their respective Grand Prix A Finals.

The day began with the Little League competition. In the u-8 event, Aiden Green and Frank White both scored 14 points, to qualify for the Grand Prix A Final, where they finished 3rd and 4th respectively. In the overall series, Aiden lies in 2nd place and Frank 4th, with one round to go.

Little League Team scores:
Kesgrave 79 Coventry 66 Poole 47 Astley & Tyldesley 38 Sheffield 25 Bury 20 Exeter 15 Wednesfield 15 Norwich 13 Hellingly 11 Horspath 9 Leicester 7 Newport 6 Birmingham 5.

The older riders then contested the British Youth & Junior League matches. John White scored 14 points in the u-12 qualifying heats, to progress to the Grand Prix A Final, where he finished in 2nd place. With one round to go, John is one of three joint leaders. Emily Burgess scored 14 points in the Girls qualifying match, to secure her place in the Grand Prix A Final. She took 3rd place, and in the overall series, trails the leader by 2 points, with one round remaining. Ciaran Collins was the last A&T rider to take the track in the u-18 category. An excellent 15 points saw him joint top scorer and progress to the Grand Prix A Final. Ciaran finished second and remains in contention for an overall rostrum placing in the series.

Astley & Tyldesley riders enjoyed a double success in the Manchester League Individual Finals, on a dry and dusty track at Bury, on Wednesday evening.

A&T riders dominated the u-10 Final, with three riders tieing for first place, after each scoring 15 points. In the run-off for the title, Fraser Brundrett drew grid 1, Aiden Green grid 2 and Duncan Whalley grid 4. In a very close race, the riders crossed the finish line in the same order as their gate positions, for Fraser to take the title, ahead of Aiden and Duncan.

Just five riders contested the u-16 Final, but it was a hard fought event in each of the five races. The decider came in the last heat and Max Evans secured the second place necessary to beat his main rival and clinch the title.

The Manchester League u-13 and u-19 Finals are at Astley & Tyldesley, this Wednesday evening, 7.00 pm start.
