A Wigan Borough business is fully embracing partnership working so they can give back to the community and provide more services.
The Edge in Wigan is home of Today’s Community Church, Postcode coffee house, The Edge conferencing and The Edge theatre – a new state of the art auditorium seating 1,000 guests.
Thanks to partnership working with the council and their recent signing to The Deal for Business, The Edge has been opened up to a number of potential business contacts and community opportunities.
Annette Burton, centre manager at The Edge said: “We have been aware of The Deal for a while as a result of working closely with the council over the years but we never wholly appreciated how it could benefit our business until we spoke directly with the business investment team.
“It was then clear that The Deal for Business would help us make more contacts in the industry and would open up more opportunities to work in partnership with the local authority and the community.
“Cohesion and community pride is really important to us and is one of the main reasons we opened Postcode. We want to publicise all of our spaces for a range of uses and add some extra culture to the town centre.”
In addition to their day-to-day work, The Edge also allows a number of community groups to hold sessions in their rustic and quirky Postcode café.
‘Good Yarn’ is the latest group to base there, allowing local residents to take time out for a knit and a natter over some freshly brewed tea and coffee.
Leader of the council and portfolio holder for economy and regeneration, councillor David Molyneux said: “The Deal for Business is a key part to how we build and maintain relationships with local businesses to build a resilient and economically thriving borough.
“By having establishments like The Edge on board, we’re able to further promote Wigan Borough as a location with a diverse offer.
“The centre has benefits for everybody including businesses and the public and is brilliantly placed within walking distance from the train stations and just a stone throw away from the upcoming Wigan Pier Quarter.
“We look forward to continuing this partnership and encouraging even more businesses to get on board.”
The Edge conference centre and auditorium holds a range of events from local concerts, to business breakfasts, company award ceremonies and more.
