Conversations for Change is a tried and tested participatory training programme which provides learners with a sound introduction and grounding in the use of Motivational Interviewing.
Motivational Interviewing is a useful way of coming alongside people who may be considering making changes. It can help professionals to step back from jumping in to fix people and shift instead to being relationally present so that the person can resolve their own ambivalence to change

Part One provides an overview of Motivational Interviewing and explores the art of asking open ended questions and responding to what you hear.
Part Two further develops the art of reflective listening. It introduces the ideas of sustain talk and change talk.
Together, we explore the way in which we influence the direction of the conversation according to the way in which we respond. Strategies that can be used to develop confidence along with techniques for use when importance appears low are also explored. Film is used in this workshop.
Part Three deepens the practice and introduces the use of affirmations to build confidence and hope. A variety of reflections are introduced and practiced.
The workshops provide safe and participatory spaces to enable learners to practice and polish new ways of hosting conversations
