More than 300 people celebrated a year to remember at the 9th annual Lose Weight Feel Great Celebrations held at the DW Stadium, Wigan on Friday.
This year celebrated the tenth year of the Lose Weight Feel Great programme which has seen 40,000 participants over the last decade.
The evening, organised by Inspiring healthy lifestyles and commissioned by Wigan Council, comprised of motivational stories and catwalks showcasing the achievements of those on the Lose Weight Feel Great programmes across the borough.
The programmes, which include Let’s Get Movin’, Lose Weight Feel Great and Lose Weight Feel Great For Men, are a collaborative approach to tackling weight loss in the borough.
Led by the council, the programme is delivered by numerous partners including Inspiring healthy lifestyles, Healthy Routes, Wigan Warriors Community Foundation, Wigan Athletic Community Trust, Liverpool Universities NHS Foundation and Slimming World.
Alison McKenzie-Folan, council chief executive said: “Lose Weight Feel Great is more than just a weight loss programme. It’s about enhancing the self-belief and confidence of all those taking part.
“Everyone here tonight is a winner, everyone has been on their own journey and challenged themselves and the results are fantastic.”
Slimming World, who are celebrating their 50th anniversary this year, sponsored the event supporting the collaborative working that has taken place making a difference to people’s lives in Wigan.
Lou Barlow, Senior Partnerships Account Manager at Slimming World, commented: “It was amazing to see the successes at the celebrations, they were all truly inspiring.
“We know that committing to losing weight can be daunting, but we feel the work we have done with Inspiring healthy lifestyles to help people in Wigan get regular support with like-minded people to make healthy changes to their eating and activity habits, through their Slimming World groups, has enabled the participants to stay focused and encouraged.
“With nearly a million members attending a Slimming World group each week, we’ve got a great understanding of what motivates someone to want to lose weight and how they change their lives once they join, and it was great to see the results of this at the Lose Weight Feel Great celebration.”
Lose Weight Feel Great offers residents bespoke physical activity sessions alongside healthy eating advice within a community setting.
The event, hosted by journalist and reporter Dave Guest, celebrated the amazing achievements of all participants on the health improvement programmes over the past decade.

The catwalk section of the evening played host to models across the weight management teams, strutting their stuff on the catwalk to reveal their weight-loss success and new-found confidence.
The event showcased the amazing personal stories of local people on their weight-loss journey and explained how the programme has changed their lives.A raffle on the evening raised £866.46 for MIND and the Mayor’s Charities of the Year, The Willow Project and Wigan Youth Zone
