Two venues used for Wigan Borough’s targeted testing at scale programme will have extended hours from next week. The move comes as two sites previously used for testing will close as Wigan Council prepares for the reopening of facilities in line with the government’s roadmap.
Progress House, Wigan, and Leigh South Community Centre will be open 9am to 6pm on weekdays from Tuesday, April 6. These sites will continue to open on Saturdays, also with extended hours (9am to 2pm).
Golborne Library and Standish Leisure Centre will close at 3.30pm on Thursday, April 1, and not reopen for testing purposes.
Professor Kate Ardern, director of public health for Wigan Borough, said: “Our targeted testing at scale programme continues to help us identify outbreaks and break the chain of transmission, enabling residents to isolate quickly when required. Our plans are always flexible and with the increased availability of home testing, this is a necessary move as these facilities will soon return to their primary functions.
The test sites are:
• Leigh South Community Centre, 32 Hope Carr Road, Leigh WN7 3ET
• Progress House, Westwood Park, Wigan WN3 4HH
Those who do have symptoms should still book for a PCR test through the national online system www.gov.uk/get-coronavirus-test or via the 119 number.
Use this service to order a test if you have at least one of these three coronavirus (Covid-19) symptoms:
- a high temperature
- a new, continuous cough
- you’ve lost your sense of smell or taste or it’s changed
