The new library and life centre at Atherton Town Hall will open at the end of October. After £1m investment from Wigan Council, the town hall has undergone a full transformation to bring a whole range of local services under one roof for residents.
When it opens on Monday 29th October residents will be able to access library, customer and digital services in a one-stop-shop.
It is the new home for Atherton library and includes a dedicated space for a children’s library. Alongside the library, there will be a Life Centre service where residents can speak with a Customer Services Advisor for assistance with Benefits, Council Tax, Housing and Welfare Support needs.
The Welfare Rights Team will have a surgery every Tuesday 9am-11am.
For residents wanting to improve their IT skills or for help to get online there is a ‘Be Online’ session every Wednesday from 10:30am-12noon. Customer Services staff can also provide digital support.
The building will also include a tea room, called Memories tea room, which will offer a full range of refreshments and afternoon tea to residents. There will be community rooms for local groups and organisations to utilise for meetings.
Atherton library is currently based in the Atherton Centre. In preparation for its move to the town hall it will be closed to the public from Monday 22nd October.
It will reopen in Atherton town hall on Monday 29th October.
