Asda Foundation – COVID-19 Healthy Holiday Grants
Grants are available to support charitable groups that typically would be holding summer holiday activities to ensure vulnerable children are provided with a hot meal.
Grants of up to £500 are available. There is only one grant allowed per group.
Applications are made via the group’s local Asda Store’s Community Champion and a total of £1,125 can be awarded per store.
Grants can be used to support charitable groups providing nutritious meals to children during the school holidays. The way the funding can be used will be dependent on the government guidelines for social distancing /lockdown restrictions at the time of the activity. (Asda Foundation will follow each government’s individual decision across England, Wales, Scotland and NI.)
Option one If social distancing is relaxed before school holidays, grants can be used by groups to provide nutritious meals for children attending healthy holiday activities during the summer holidays. For example, an afterschool club that wants to extend its activities to support children during the school holidays could use the grant to provide a meal and activities three days per week which will benefit 100 children per week. This will ensure that children have access to a nutritious meal and are able to socialise and have structured play sessions during the school holidays.
Option two If social distancing has not been relaxed, grants can be used to enable groups to deliver provisions to deprived children and their families at home (in an area close to an Asda store) who are struggling for regular meals during the school holidays. For example, a local rotary club could use the grant to enable them to prepare ready meals in a local community centre and then deliver them to deprived children and families in their area.
Applicants must provide details of how they will use the grant for both options one and two. Applicants will then be notified once a funding decision is reached, but payment will only be made two weeks prior to the activity date, in line with the government guidance at that time.Application forms can be obtained from Asda Community Champions, who are based in local Asda stores.
There are two different application forms, one for groups who are government entity organisations and another for groups who are non-government entities. (Guidance notes on completing these forms are available on the Asda Foundation website.)
Applications must be made via an Asda Community Champion and will be assessed within six weeks from the date the Community Champion submits them to the Asda Foundation.
