Honours Festival

91

I am contacting you from the Department of Levelling up, Housing and Communities to let you know about the inaugural virtual Honours Festival we are jointly organising with the Cabinet Office which runs from 14th to 17th June, to coincide with the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee celebrations. Full details for the events and registration can be found here.

All events are free and available for anyone to sign up to who has an interest in honours and making a nomination for someone deserving. As part of the week of festivities, we have a specific event planned for those based within the Local Government.

Events planned throughout the week include a practical nomination writing workshop, discussions on diversity and history of the honours system as well as a variety of sector specific panel events aimed at people involved with those sectors. All of the events feature inspirational honours recipients including DLUHC’s Second Permanent Secretary, Sue Gray, Mel B MBE, Lemn Sissay OBE, Mr Motivator MBE, Jay Blades MBE and many more. You can sign up to as many events as you like.

I would like to ask for your help in promoting these events across your organisation and network. We want to reach the widest possible audience during Honours Week, with the aim of seeing a noticeable increase in the number of nominations coming from across the UK and Local Government. We know that not enough people in the country know how the honours system works and this is our opportunity to change that.

Any help you can provide in promoting these events through your newsletters, email chains or social media would be greatly appreciated.

If you would like some more information or have any questions on the Honours Festival, please contact william.mitchell1@cabinetoffice.gov.uk.
