“Wiganers worried about visiting the hospice are having specialist care for life limiting illnesses come to them thanks to a new community clinic. Wigan & leigh Hospice have opened a new service in Marsh Green where community nurses provide expert care and advice on patients doorstep.
Bringing clinics out into the community has proved a success with the first of its kind in Standish having seen dozens of patients in 2018. The new service is at Marsh green Clinic on Harrow Road and runs on a Tuesday morning between 8.30a.m. and 1p.m. The newest one at Old Henry medical Street Centre in Leigh starts on February 6th and will run every Wednesday from 1p.m. to 4p.m.
The clinics are for people with conditiond such as motor neurone disease, advances cancer, progressive heart failure or COPD. Patients are referred to the service through their GP’s, District nurses or hospital consultant
