We are delighted to tell you about an exciting opportunity to help people living with dementia and their carers. Over the past 4 years Wigan Council and its partners including, The Alzheimer’s Society, Wigan Borough Clinical Commissioning Group, North West Boroughs NHS Foundation Trust, local businesses and the wider community has developed Dementia Friendly Communities. The model uses an inclusive, asset based approach that engages and connects people living with dementia, their families, carers and the wider community. It facilitates a conversation to find out what the community wants to do to raise awareness, promote inclusion, independence and empowers people to undertake social activities in line with the Deal for Adult Social Care and Health.
People with dementia say they want to keep going out in their local community and using local services, we now have an opportunity to access a small amount of funding to support local ideas and projects in Wigan North including Standish, Shevington, Appley Bridge and Aspull, to help people living with dementia and their carers, to provide further Dementia Friendly Community activities across Wigan Borough, and are inviting interested parties to find out more and submit applications.
You may be aware of existing Dementia Friendly Communities Activities (DFC) that is similar to your project. We expect applicants to demonstrate a good knowledge of the sector in which they want to work but do not want to fund projects that will duplicate provision. As a result we want you to show us how your project/idea differs from or compliments what already is available. For a list of DFC project visit www.wigan.gov.uk/dementiaactivities
