Wigan Borough has a long association with the Irish community and the Irish language (Gaeilge) and culture are still thriving at the Brian Boru Club in Ashton-in-Makerfield.
With the support of the Manchester irish language group the club has set up the first Irish language community library in Britain and we are inviting all those interested in learning and /or sharing a cúpla focal (couple of words) with us to get in touch.
The benefits of a second language are well proven, helping everything from Dementia to children’s cognitive development. For many of us Irish helps us re-connect with where we come from, or to family history. For others its about connecting to a culture that has a Fáilte- welcome – for everyone.
For more information get in touch with the club on 01942 727536 or Danny on 07783379240.
Or come down on a Friday evening and join us where there is also the opportunity to play or learn traditional Irish music with the local Comhaltas musicians.
Ceol, Cómhrá agus Craic – music, conversation and good company too!
