Despite the many disruptions caused by the Covid-19 pandemic, members of the Rotary Clubs of Astley and Leigh having been working hard to bring some Christmas cheer to the residents of Leigh, Lowton,  Astley and Mosley Common.

The Clubs have been working out plans to safely bring Father Christmas and his sleigh round the districts again just before Christmas, whilst complying with all national and  local Covid-19 safety regulations and guidelines.

The Float will still be touring the estates of the areas, but will not be stopping, in addition the Astley Rotary Float  will  be located outside local Co-op supermarkets at weekends, for youngsters to visit Santa. This will be under a carefully controlled environment, with Santa safely sat in the Float, fully enclosed behind a perspex screen, with marshals to ensure that children and parents adhere to social distancing and hygiene requirements, when queueing to view and talk to Santa.

Unfortunately, they will not be able to collect, which means they will be missing all the money usually donated. Every penny goes to good causes so this will be disastrous for the charitable donations they give out every year.

Leigh Rotary Club have set up a Just Giving Page in the hope that people will donate by going to or by using their mobile phone and texting LEIGHSANTA plus the amount you want to give then sending it to 70460, for example, to give £2, text LEIGHSANTA 2 then send it to 70460. The donation sites and a list of all the streets where Santa will tour, can be accessed on the Leigh Rotary Website or Facebook page

People will be able to make donations to the Rotary Club of Astley, either via text message or the Club’s Just Giving page.
