Custody Detention Officer
Custody Detention Officer recruitment is open and will close on Sunday 14th June 2020.
Custody Detention Officers perform a vital role in the smooth running of the custody suite, ensuring the safety and well-being of detainees and visitors. Custody Detention Officers work in the custody suites in police stations. They help to keep detained people and their property secure and safe.
The main role of a CDO is detainee welfare – everyone who is detained in custody will be checked on by a detention officer throughout their stay.
CDO’s are responsible for detainees from the moment they arrive at the police station. Tasks include booking them in, logging their possessions, taking their fingerprints and photographs and making sure they are secure in a cell.
During their time in custody you’ll take them bedding, food and drink, make regular cell checks, and keep cells clean. Cells can become messy if a detainee is intoxicated or becomes sick. You’ll need to be prepared to clean the cell and be compassionate towards the detainee when this happens.
There’ll also be phone calls to answer, solicitors to deal with, and a whole host of other things to do. There really is no average day as a Custody Detention Officer.
CDO’s are assigned a base custody suite to work from at one of our 6 custody sites, however the flexibility to to work at any of the custody suites to meet demand is essential, therefore, a full driving licence and access to a vehicle is essential.
Our custody suites are located at;
