Wigan Borough residents are being encouraged to get involved in this year’s Great British Spring Clean – the nation’s biggest mass-action environmental campaign.

Through the Keep It Clean campaign, the council has been tackling litter and fly-tipping; with 2,000 litter picking volunteers, 160 new bins installed, and cleaner streets in our borough. The council is calling on its residents to join the action and take part in litter picks.

Councillor Paul Prescott, cabinet portfolio holder for environment said “Our litter picking volunteers do an incredible job keeping our streets clean, boosting civic pride, and protecting local wildlife from litter.

Council-led litter picks are taking place on

  • Monday 18 March, 10am-12pm, meeting at Wigan St Cuthbert’s ARLFC car park, Montrose Ave, Wigan, WN5 9XN
  • Wednesday 27 March, 10am-12pm, meeting outside 88A Walthew Lane, Platt Bridge, WN2 5AL

As well as carrying out a litter pick, the council’s team will be targeting grot spots, clearing any fly-tipping, and sprucing these areas up, building on the great work being delivered across the borough through the Our Town 3 programme.

If you’d like to get involved in an organised litter pick, lead your own group, or just get out there yourself for some peace and quiet while doing something great for our planet, visit www.wigan.gov.uk/springclean to find out how to get involved.
