THE Leigh Spinners Mill project has been boosted by a £180,000 fund.

The Leigh Building Preservation Trust has been awarded the sum by the National Lottery Community Fund. This will be over two years to develop the project and serve the community.

The money will allow the Trust to recruit a manager and support team, to undertake a range of small scale capital improvements and to acquire a mini bus for school visits and group visits as well as supporting some initiatives.

The funding will allow the Trust to continue development and will ensure its survival, albeit not covering running costs.

The Community Fund project should start at the end of this month with a series of improvements to the Trust reception, to the doors on to each floor, improved disabled access and improved fire alarm system.

A much needed management team to operate the mill and to develop services and introduce new ideas will be put in place.

The mill is currently closed for visitors due to the coronavirus which has closed the majority of services but the Trust says the time spent closed can be used to good effect to prepare for the future
