Anyone who bought a real Christmas tree this year may be wondering how to get rid or recycle it in the New Year. Wigan Borough has a team of local volunteers working in partnership with the charity ‘Just Helping’ who are willing to come and collect and recycle your tree in return for a donation.
Funds raised will be shared between Wigan & Leigh Hospice who will receive at least 51% of the money after costs, the Lancashire Mining Museum and other small community organisations.
You can register up to the9th January and the collection of the tree will be made between the 12th and 15th January covering all post codes in Wigan Borough. The trees will be chipped and used either as compost or for pave trails at Lancashire Mining Museum in Astley and Greenslate Community Farm in Billinge.
The scheme is being sponsored and supported by The Co-op, The Good Estate Agent, Green Crew, and the Rotary Clubs of Astley, Leigh, and Wigan but more volunteers would be welcome to help with the collection. So if you would like to get involved and support your local Christmas Tree collection, please get in touch – email: email@example.com and they can point you in the right direction.
President of Wigan Rotary Santi Nandi said, ‘This is a great scheme which is not only helping the environment, but is offering much needed support to Wigan & Leigh Hospice who provide such a wonderful service for the residents of this Borough’
