Secondary school and college testing programme

Following new advice, NHS Test and Trace and Public Health England have temporarily paused the need for secondary schools and colleges to carry out a confirmatory Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) test following a positive result with a Lateral Flow Test (LFT).

Following a positive Lateral Flow Test result taken at school or college, an individual will need to self-isolate in line with government guidance, and contact tracing will need to be undertaken. It will also be the trigger for self-isolation payments.

In line with clinical advice, confirmatory PCR testing will remain in place for primary school staff as testing is done at home
