Pupils became Junior Traffic Wardens for the day to take a stand against dangerous parking at their school.

Alongside Wigan Council’s Road Safety Team, local PCSOs and APCOA, children from St James Primary School in Worsley Mesnes handed out parking tickets, designed by a pupil, and handed them out to parents parking illegally outside of their school.

The winning design was printed onto the parking notice alongside their message to parents, which is, My Life Matters.

The children were kitted out with their very own hi-viz vests and cap, in the hope that parents think twice about parking in restricted areas around the school and educate drivers on the rules of the road.

St James have already received a bronze School Travel Plan, which recognises schools that have shown excellence in supporting cycling, walking and other forms of sustainable travel. They are now working towards even more awards for keeping their pupils safe.

If the Junior Traffic Warden scheme is successful it will be rolled out to other schools across the borough.
