My Wigan Borough Update 12/3/2022

We need your help!
Throughout the pandemic you have provided us with some very insightful feedback to help shape our plans.

We would like to rely on your thoughts and opinions once again as we have entered a new phase since the lifting of all legal restrictions.

Throughout the past two years we’ve published a weekly tracker showing the number of cases in the borough and a breakdown of where those cases are. We’ve also shared weekly vaccination figures, all included in your weekly newsletter.

The link below takes you to a short survey, it will only take a few minutes to complete. Thank you.

Celebrate women’s rugby league for International Women’s Day
Celebrate International Women’s Day this weekend with a special rugby league event at the Museum of Wigan Life.

Following our week of celebrations and discussions for International Women’s Day, we are now inviting all women interested in rugby league to join us and historian Dr Victoria Dawson to hear stories from women’s rugby league history.

We also want to hear your rugby league memories. Perhaps you’ve still got that scarf your nan made you when you were a girl, or the ticket to the first match you went to? Bring it along and tell us about what makes rugby league special to you.

The event will finish with a tour around our Gerrumonside exhibition and the chance to help shape the future of our rugby heritage projects, so that we can #BreakTheBias and make sure women are always at the heart of rugby league heritage.

Join us on Saturday, 12 March at 12pm for the free informal talk and tour until 2pm.
No need to book.

Give your view on proposals for Mosley Common

A consultation has launched offering you the chance to have your say on a masterplan to create a new community in the borough, bringing £155m investment for the area.

Peel L&P’s proposals at Mosley Common, south-west of Walkden and east of Tyldesley, would bring around 200 jobs to the local area and the public is being invited to have their say on the plans to help shape the development.

The developer aims to create a healthy living community with 1,100 new homes spread across several distinctive neighbourhoods. These homes will suit a range of needs including first time buyers, families, downsizers and older people with later living accommodation. Around 25 per cent will be available for people with affordable housing needs.

Golborne Active Neighbourhood – have your say

We’re currently looking to create an Active Neighbourhood in Golborne.

An Active Neighbourhood is a place where the movement, health and safety of people is prioritised over cars.

It’s simply about creating safe, attractive spaces where people can spend time chatting or where children can play, typically using planters or bollards on some streets to stop through access.

The changes also make it easier to get around on foot and by bike.

Come along to our community walk through to find out more about the plans.

A leaflet will also be dropping through your letterbox soon to tell you more – keep an eye out for it.
