NIHR ARC-GM Research Training opportunities – now open for applications

The NIHR ARC-GM Internship and Pre-doctoral Fellowship Programmes are now open for applications. Applications will close at 5pm on Friday 24th May. These opportunities are a great way for those working in the health and care systems in Greater Manchester to work with ARC-GM to develop their career in applied research.

  • Internships [] are entry-level opportunities designed for staff who have little or no research experience who wish to explore applied health or care research as a potential career path. Internships are for up to 30 days (unfunded) taken flexibly over 4 – 12 months and come with a £1,000 training budget.
  • Pre-doctoral Fellowships [] are for staff who have some research experience who wish to go on and develop a competitive PhD proposal in an area of applied health or care research. A maximum of £20,000 is offered to back fill staff time up to 0.5FTE over 12 months. A training budget of £2,000 is also available.

More information about both of these programmes, including eligibility criteria, guidance for applicants [] and a link to the online application form [] can be found on the ARC-GM Training and Development website []. The guidance is also attached to this email.

Please note that we particularly encourage those from under-served backgrounds to apply – this includes those from professions where there is a need for additional research support, such as nursing, midwifery, pharmacy, allied health professions, social work, commissioning and public health.

The value of our opportunities was highlighted at a showcase of the work of our Interns, Pre-doctoral Fellows and PhD students, held in November 2023. The online event was an opportunity for those supported by ARC-GM and its partners to present the work they have undertaken during their time with us. These presentations are available to view here [].
