Do you know someone who goes the extra mile or should be recognised for their star quality?
Nominations are currently open for the next Wigan Borough Our Stars awards and residents are being urged to put forward their unsung hero.
The annual awards celebrate the contributions of time and talent from volunteers and people who give something back to their community.
Nominations are open until 29th October so there is plenty of time left to nominate an individual or community group.
The award ceremony will take place in March 2019.
Our Stars is organised by organisations and voluntary groups from across the borough and Wigan Council. It is partly funded through the Deal for Communities Investment Fund.
On the night the awards will include Inspiring Volunteer, Street Hero, Make a Difference, Community Group of the Year and Lifetime Achievement.
Cllr Chris Ready, cabinet member for communities at Wigan Council, said: “Our Stars is always a fantastic event which recognises the unsung heroes in our communities. I’m proud to see so many volunteers involved and doing great things across our borough. It is an inspiring evening and I’d encourage as many people as possible to nominate someone they know.”
Samantha Broxton, who’s organising the event, said: “It really is amazing how much passion, energy and time volunteers bring to communities all over the borough. I don’t think people realise how lucky we are as a borough to have so many inspiring and caring people amongst us. We want to show the people of Wigan what the ‘Our Stars’ is all about and if they haven’t got involved this year then get them involved in 2018!”
The organisers are also looking for sponsors and local organisations to support the event.
Nominate now and find out more information at www.ourstars.co.uk or 01942 316455.
Nomination forms can also be collected from a number of community and start well centres across the borough
