Online Transactions to Become Even Easier

Accessing Wigan Council services is about to become even easier thanks to a new and improved online tool.

The new version of MyAccount, an online platform allowing residents to access their Council Tax, Housing Benefit and other council services, will be updated in March.  

Residents are now able to switch over or sign up to the new platform. The old platform will be unavailable from 31 March 2021. Once signed up, people can activate secure access to services such as council tax and housing benefits.

The council is committed to reviewing and improving its online services to ensure that they are easy and simple to use, achieve better outcomes and are accessible to as many people as possible.  The switch to a new MyAccount is the start of that journey which will ultimately benefit residents whenever they need to contact the council.

Digital teams have embraced and taken advantage of technological advancements to build a new online system which is secure, easy to use and fully compatible on a variety of devices and browsers.

The council’s MyAccount system has been in place since 2014 and lets people access a wide variety of Wigan Council services 24 hours a day.

The digital approach to the way that services are offered is embedded in the principles laid out in the Deal 2030. The increased use of online services will have money saving benefits for both residents and the council.

Work to upgrade the online tool will be undertaken in phases with residents initially accessing the transferred services from the old system like reporting missed bins and environmental crimes and accessing booking services such as marriages, deaths and births.

Future phases will see teams identify additional digital services which increase residents, businesses and organisations’ ability to transact with us digitally.

Anyone who feels like they may need some help and guidance with online skills so they can access MyAccount is encouraged to contact the council’s TechMate service.
