opportunity for our local supply chain to join forces with a national company to offer their skills

Key decision makers from a national property development company are giving Wigan Borough’s local trade businesses the opportunity to get involved in one of their upcoming schemes.

Countryside, a residential housebuilder firm boasting schemes throughout the UK has been working in partnership with Wigan Council to host a ‘meet the buyer’ event at Wigan and Leigh College next week.

The free event welcomes medium to large local construction companies offering services including: electrical, plumbing and heating, PVCU windows, plastering, joinery, roofing and more to speak directly with representatives of Countryside about working as a supplier or sub-contractor.

Countryside already has a number of schemes within the borough, including Barrowcroft Green in Standish and Hamilton Square in but the ‘meet the buyer’ event would relate specifically to their newest scheme, Owens Farm, a 166 residential unit scheme in Hindley Green and Bickershaw. Wigan and Leigh College will also be on hand to offer information about training and apprenticeships and Wigan Council will be available to discuss the Deal for Business and funding available for local companies.

Rebecca Heron, director for economy and skills at Wigan Council said: “This is a fantastic opportunity for our local supply chain to join forces with a national company to offer their skills for a substantial scheme. It’s great that Countryside Properties are harnessing local expertise in this way. “We look forward to meeting this network of people and providing them with useful information that can help with development from offering financial support to business guidance and advice. “We’re committed to encouraging local businesses thrive and providing opportunities for our young people, so it’s also great to have Wigan and Leigh College on board too.”

John Grealis, Regional Operations Director at Countryside, added: “Forming strong partnerships with businesses throughout the borough not only ensures investment into the region, but also has a positive impact on the local economy. We look forward to welcoming the region’s businesses to this event, which aims to provide local suppliers with the opportunity to become involved in our work, whilst further generating employment and training opportunities.”

The breakfast event will take place on Tuesday 17th April, 8am-10am.

Countryside hope to begin the groundworks at Hindley Green in April and any successful companies will be required from May 2018 onwards. If you have a local company and would like to attend the event, visit www.eventbrite.co.uk and search ‘Countryside’.
