QUEEN’S AWARD FOR VOLUNTARY SERVICE 2018

VOLUNTEERS from the borough’s hospital trust have been recognised by royalty for their hard work. Wrightington, Wigan and Leigh NHS Foundation Trust (WWL) volunteers have won The Queen’s Award for Voluntary Service 2018.

Head of patient and public engagement Andrea Arkwright and volunteer Margaret Collier were invited to a garden party at Buckingham Palace in celebration of the award, which was attended by the Queen.

Andrea said: “It is absolutely wonderful for our volunteers to be recognised in this way. “Each and every one plays a significant role in the life of the hospital and we depend on them to maintain our high standards of patient relative visitor experience. They are an extraordinary group of individuals, all with impressive talents, skills and knowledge, which they generously lend to us daily; they are an example to us all.”

There are 380 WWL volunteers who give up their time to help staff and patients.
