The number of smokers in the borough has fallen in the last four years and is now at the national average.

Between 2012 and 2106 the percentage dropped from 22.7 to 17.7.

It is a decrease much larger than those achieved by either England or the North West

The borough’s under 75’s cancer mortality rate has also seen improvement from sitting at 186.3% in 2001-2003 compared to the England average of 169.4%; in 2013-2015 the borough’s rate had dropped to 146.2% showing a sizeable decrease
