Astley Rotary santa sleigh

Despite the many disruptions caused by the Covid-19 pandemic, members of the Rotary Club of Astley having been working hard and we are delighted to announce that we are able to bring some Christmas cheer to the residents of Astley.

The Club have been working out plans to safely bring Father Christmas and his sleigh round the Astley district again just before Christmas, whilst complying with all national and local Covid-19 safety regulations and guidelines.

The Float will still be touring the estates of the area, but will not be stopping, as street collections are not permitted.

The Float will also be located outside local Co-op supermarkets at weekends, for youngsters to visit Santa. This will be under a carefully controlled environment, with Santa safely sat in the Float, fully enclosed behind a perspex screen, with marshals (elves) to ensure that children and parents adhere to social distancing, rule of six and hygiene requirements, when queuing to view and talk to Santa.

The Rotary Club’s Santa and Float will be present at the Drive Through Carol Service, at Lancashire Mining Museum. This will feature three performances, at 6 pm, 7 pm, 8 pm.

Tickets must be pre-booked through Eventbrite, with visitors required to remain in their cars at all times. The concerts will be performed by the Astley Band and broadcast on Wrightington, Wigan and Leigh Hospital Radio. For further details, on how to book and adhere to the regulations, visit the Lancashire Mining Museum’s website at

Tyldesley with Atherton Rotary Club will be touring Mosley Common area.

Unlike previous years, no cash collections will be taken, but people will be able to make donations to the Rotary Club of Astley, either via text message or the Club’s Just Giving page.
