Congratulations to Embrace Wigan and Leigh and Wigan Little Theatre

The Queen’s Award for Voluntary Service (QAVS) is the highest award given to UK volunteer groups, being equivalent to the MBE. The prestigious award recognises exceptional work done by volunteer groups in their communities.

This year the Queen’s Award results were announced on the 2nd June – the anniversary of Her Majesty’s Coronation. Wigan organisations Embrace Wigan and Leigh (A user-led charity supporting disabled people to be valued, included and to have real choice) and Wigan Little Theatre (Volunteers providing high quality, wide-ranging, traditional and innovative theatre for over 70 years) were awarded the Queen’s Award for Voluntary Service

Greater Manchester enjoyed another successful year with 35 organisations being awarded (list attached below). Congratulations to all awardees.

Nominations for this year are now open with a deadline of 13th September 2019 for award in 2020. We encourage any group doing volunteer work that provides a social, economic or environmental service to the local community to seek out nominations .
