Wigan and Leigh indoor market halls will reopen on 15 June, in line with social distancing measures.
Wigan Council has announced a phased reopening to the town’s two market halls at stallholder request, with all traders returning from 4 July, subject to any further announcements by Government.
The decision comes a week after Wigan’s outdoor market reopened to the public. Social distancing markers, additional signage, hand sanitising facilities and extra security and staff to ensure customer flow are new measures that will be implemented to ensure government guidance is adhered to.
The council will support all traders to undertake risk assessments to ensure their businesses operate safely and in line with government guidance. Once the assessments have been actioned, traders can return to the market halls between 15 June and 4 July. Traders will only be charged rent from the day they return to their stall, with usual rental agreements back in place from 4 July.
