The spectacular Wigan Pride will return for its fifth year in 2020 and promises to be as bright and colourful as ever.
A celebration of diversity and inclusion, the event brings Wigan Borough together and has become a popular addition to the cultural calendar.
This year’s extravaganza will take place on Saturday, August 8, and the organising committee is urging residents to play a part.
Committee spokesperson Dan Bonney said: “If you can’t wait until August, you’re in luck because we’re planning to visit local communities throughout this year.
“It’s so you can tell us what you’d like to see at Pride 2020 and the fund-raising events in the build-up.
“We’re so excited to be bringing Wigan Pride back and we’re looking forward to revealing what we have in store.”
Suggestions for new additions to the schedule are being sought to complement established favourites from previous events.
The flamboyant and fun-packed community parade, for example, will be making a return as will a range of entertainment hosted on two stages in the town centre.
Established acts will perform on the Unity Stage with the Believe Stage offering opportunities to up-and-coming local artists.
Dan added: “As always the event will be completely free to attend and family friendly.
“We also aim to make Wigan Pride as accessible as we can so that as many people as possible can come along.
“Children and young people across the borough will be invited to get involved in advance through our annual competition.
“We’ll release more information on all of this, and on the event itself, throughout the year.”
Wigan Pride is led by volunteers from the local LGBTQ+ community and run in partnership with Wigan Council, including the council’s youth group, BYOU, Wigan Borough CCG, the LGBT Foundation and local businesses.
