Wigan Rotary enjoy the local success at the Youth Speaks District Final 2020

As in the past 2 years, Wigan Rotary Club once again hosted the Wigan Heat of the contest on February 3rd at St John Rigby College and we thank them once again for their generosity.

The two winning teams from that heat were Shevington High School in the intermediate section and St. Peter’s Catholic High School in the seniors.

These two teams then went  on to compete in the Rotary  District Final at Forest Hills Leisure Centre in Frodsham, on Sunday March 1st

Both teams did Wigan proud.

Shevington presented an interesting description of a teaching method from Sweden entitled “Life is what you make it”.  St Peters made the audience think long and hard with their presentation entitled “Does Freedom of Expression Really Exist?”.

The standard of speaking from all the teams involved was outstanding.  The judges had a very difficult job but Wigan Rotary Club are pleased to say that St. Peter’s High School swept the board in the senior section, winning best Chair, Best Speaker and Best Vote of Thanks.  It goes without saying that they then went on to win the Senior Section Trophy.

They now proceed to the Grand Final of Youth Speaks which will be held on Saturday 9th May 2020 at the University of Central Lancashire in Preston.

We wish them well!
